Our customers help drive our innovation. They asked for an easy, online tool to help execute the documents required under HIPAA’s Privacy and Security Rules.”
SANTA MONICA, CA, UNITED STATES, April 5, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — PCIHIPAA developed OfficeSafe™, a technology platform to help medical and dental practices comply with stringent Payment Card Industry (PCI) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. Today, PCIHIPAA released OfficeSafe’s Privacy Automation Tool to enable healthcare professionals to easily execute documents required under HIPAA’s Privacy Rule. The Privacy Automation Tool provides a level of confidence to protect and ensure that medical and dental practices are abiding by, and staying current with stringent HIPAA privacy requirements.
A covered entity must obtain the individual’s written authorization for any use or disclosure of protected health information that is not for treatment, payment or health care operations or otherwise permitted or required by the Privacy Rule. In addition, each covered entity, with certain exceptions, must provide a notice of its privacy practices. The Privacy Rule requires that the notice contain certain elements. The notice must describe the ways in which the covered entity may use and disclose protected health information, and must make a good faith effort to obtain written acknowledgement from patients of receipt of the privacy practices notice.

Through OfficeSafe’s Privacy Automation Tool, practices can electronically obtain patient authorizations, acknowledgements, and definitive requests to access, and transfer protected health information (PHI). The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) may impose penalties on practices that fail to comply with the HIPAA Privacy Rule. Penalties will vary significantly depending on certain factors, and range from $100 to $50,000 or more, depending on the violation.
“Our customers help drive our innovation. They asked for an easy, online tool to help execute the documents required under HIPAA’s Privacy and Security Rules. We created OfficeSafe and the Privacy Automation Tool based on their input,” said Jeff Broudy, CEO of PCIHIPAA. Broudy adds, “Many small to mid-sized medical and dental practices don’t have the time and resources to keep up with all the governmental regulations and risks surrounding the protection of sensitive protected health information. We deliver easy and affordable solutions so healthcare professionals can focus on what they do best: treating patients.”
